Domodedovo Airport is the largest Russian airport, serving more than 25 million passengers per year.

Domodedovo International Airport currently is and wants to stay the most modern and prestigious airport of the Moscow region. In order to be able to cope with the ever growing number of passengers handled by the airport the baggage handling system needed to be adapted to the latest technological standards available.

The baggage handling system for Domodedovo International Airport consists of a 100% redundant solution including two HELIXORTER tilt-tray sorters for the final sortation to the correct make-up area.

The system is equipped with six check-in islands, in total 112 check-in positions that allow fully free check-in.
Due to the fact that Domodedovo is preparing their new terminal for further growth, the baggage handling system can be easily upgraded to meet the higher capacity demands. Twelve self service check-ins and twelve baggage drop-off points are being installed at this point.

Easy connections to future new terminals and a conveyor line from a railway station are also included in the design.

The scope of process control handled by the Vanderlande VIBES software suite first encompassed end-to-end planning, sorting and Early Bag Storage. After the terminal was taken in operation the functionality of VIBES was extended with a flexible solution to master all the aspects of security and customs control.
