KAIA Jeddah Hajj Terminal, Saudi Arabia

“Vanderlande is our partner in maintaining and supporting operations at the Hajj Terminal for Jeddah International Airport. The strong partnership between PPMDC and Vanderlande has resulted in an exceptional performance of the baggage handling system during the busy Hajj period.”
Mr. Ahmad Sinno–BHS Manager PPMDC

Because of Jeddah's closeness to Islam's holy cities of Mekah and Madina, King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) airport stands for one feature in particular: the Hajj Terminal. Especially built to handle pilgrims destined for Mekah to take part in the rituals associated with the annual Hajj. Vanderlande delivered the baggage handling system and is responsible for services since 2008.

Operator PPMDC chose for a site-based service contract. This ensures them high level performance and keeps them up-to-date with the industry’s developments. It consists of a site-based maintenance team and 24/7 hotline support for conveyor equipment and IT & controls. The team of about 25 trained service engineers works in two shifts and is supervised by a maintenance manager, an assistant maintenance manager and a controls engineer of Vanderlande Industries. The team is scalable throughout the Ramadan and Hajj season.

Part of the responsibilities of the site-based team is to detect optimisation opportunities in close cooperation with the customer. This resulted in some system modifications that increased performance.
