At its facility in Königswinter, Germany, Schedl produces car tyres for car makers. Vanderlande Industries supplied the material handling system.
Wheels (tyres and rims) are assembled and then stored in a 4-crane miniload system with 7,200 storage locations.
Corresponding with the serial production of cars at BMW Schedl delivers complete tyres to the assembly line according to a 'just-in-time' production process. Not only the sequence of the sets of wheels is important, but also the sequence of the wheels within the set. The exact sequence is only known a few hours prior to production. This places special demands on the material handling system.
Vanderlande Industries was able to develop and implement a system that meets the company's specific requirements.
