Amazon.de is a subsidiary of Amazon.com the leading online retailer of products that inform, educate, entertain and inspire. The Amazon group also has online stores in the United States, United Kingdom, France, Japan and Canada.  

In May 2000, Amazon contracted Vanderlande Industries to deliver an order-fulfillment system with all the flexibility and reliability to meet their business requirements. The system was handed over to Amazon within 5 months.

The orderpicking system is based upon Vanderlande’s Mini-batch concept. Products are picked in small batches in a large shelving area. The picked items are consolidated per batch and conveyed to order distribution stations. At these stations the products are sorted manually, based on barcode-scanning.  

Orders are packed and then conveyed to an automated weighing and labelling line. A POSISORTER™ sorts the shipping cartons to 10 destinations.
