Bakker developed a reputation for innovation in the gardening mail order market. And from 1998 Bakker has also been involved in selling quality flower bulbs, plants and other products via Internet.

In 1998 Bakker contracted Vanderlande Industries to implement a revolutionary order picking system to fulfil 60,000 orders per day. The system is based on Vanderlande’s Order Distribution System (ODS). 

In the new system, all products are picked by operators on goods-to-man workstations. A high-performance conveyor systems brings the product in totes to the workstations, where pick-to-light displays tell the operator to which orders these product should be distributed. Miniload cranes store and retrieve the product-totes on demand.   

The new concept resulted in a huge increase in efficiency. Order pickers can now pick up to 700 order lines per hour! This highly dynamic operation is controlled by the VISION™ Logistics Software Suite.
