Shoe retailer Brantano has more than 295 shops and franchises in Western Europe and the Middle East. It stocks all the top brands, and has a wide choice for every age and taste.
Brantano awarded Vanderlande Industries a contract in 1995 for the material handling system for sorting shoeboxes and outer cartons for its DC in Belgium in 1995, and in the UK in 2001. The system is used for sortation of incoming pre-packs (cartons of shoeboxes) and outgoing pair boxes.
It consists of the following functions:
- Batchpicking of pair boxes from shelves in batches of approximately 32 stores
- Inducting these pairboxes and transportation from three floors to the SHOEBOXORTER™
- Automatic scanning of labels and sortation per store
- Before sortation, information is downloaded from the Brantano host to the Vanderlande Industries control system
An additional task is the handling of returned boxes from the stores. These are registered, sorted to reference and returned to storage.
