Argos is the largest non-food Retail chain in the United Kingdom. With Sales over 4 billion it's the number one in toys and domestic appliances and besides that the leading supplier of many other products such as DIY, Garden utilities, Electrical and Furniture.

Argos Ltd. awarded Vanderlande Industries a contract of 30 million to supply a fully automated distribution centre, designed to fulfil two functions:

Direct import:

• Receiving of containerised products
• Automatic palletising of unloaded products
• Automatic storage of 95,000 pallets
• Automatic retrieval and staging of shipments Central

 Distribution centre:

• Miniload storage system for 72,000 totes
• Order Distribution System with 56 workstations
• Automated order consolidation and dolly stacking system
• All automated processes are controlled by the VISION™ Logistics Software Suite

The complete system was handed over 'turnkey' in October 2003, according to plan. Vanderlande Industries has been given the entire responsibility for all maintenance on the material handling system.
