HERMA is Europe's leading specialist for self-adhesive technology, developing and producing labelling systems and self-adhesive products. In Filderstadt, Germany, HERMA has built a new logistics centre, with state-of-the-art technology and architecture. The material handling system, including a Compact Picking System (CPS) and 11 miniload cranes, was supplied by Vanderlande Industries.
From the receiving area, a conveyor system takes products to the small parts storage. This storage area consists of an automated miniload system with 11 cranes, containing 100,000 storage locations and 3,000 different articles. Order picking, based on Vanderlande Industries’ Compact Picking System (CPS), takes place at 14 CPS workstation. Products are picked into cartons, which are automatically taken away and transported to the shipping area and then sorted according to forwarding agents.
With the new automated material handling system, HERMA is able to respond faster to customer orders, improving customer service levels. Picking accuracy is very high, leading to high operator productivity and a highly efficient picking process overall.
