Even without the successful 2000 Olympic Games, Sydney Airport handling about 23 million annual passengers was due for an upgrade. For the Sydney International Terminal expansion of the baggage system, Vanderlande Industries was selected as system integrator and supplier of main equipment based on the best bid and reference projects.
Departure:
- Check-in system was upgraded from 5 to 10 islands containing 192 check-in desks
- Hold Baggage Screening (HBS) is integrated in-line by a 3-level security screening procedure.
- Sortation takes place by VERTISORTER and 2 high-capacity
- HELIXORTER systems. The sorter supply lines can together process 9,600 bags an hour realised by a creative design.
- The flight make-up is arranged by 13 flat TRIPLANAR systems
Arrival:
- Baggage is transported by belt conveyors to one of 7 tilted TRIPLANAR reclaim carousels.
A large portion of the work was subcontracted locally and this demanding project was completed in time for the 2000 Olympics. The capacity of 48,000 bags a day means that Sydney Airport is ready for the future.
