Batch Picking/Multi-order picking

Batch picking (also known as multi-order picking) is characterised by combining product demand from multiple orders into one pick instruction. After order picking, the goods are sorted/consolidated by order or shipping destination. Batch picking increases throughput and operator efficiency. It optimises order picking efficiency by maximising pick quantities and minimising operator walking distances. It prevents congestion in the aisles that occurs during traditional order picking when multiple operators want to pick from the same product simultaneously. Orders are sorted/consolidated by order/destination automatically, reducing manual handling.

Our batch picking systems are enabled by our VISION Warehouse Management System (WMS) for the effective handling of the entire batch picking process. Functionalities include batch planning, resource planning, sorter control and a dashboard for key performance indicators.

Amazon is the world’s leading online retailer of books, CDs, DVDs and videos. At their German logistics hub in Bad Hersfeld, Amazon implemented a highly flexible batch picking and order consolidation system. This has resulted in significantly increased capacity and better process management and supervision. It also makes it easy for them to incorporate new products into their operation.

We have broad experience designing and implementing batch picking systems. See Game Stores, Samsung and Entertainment UK.
