Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) enable you to automatically store and retrieve pallets, cartons or totes from racking locations. It is possible to increase storage density up to 60%. Examples of AS/RS systems are:
- pallet high bay warehouses
- automated small parts warehouses (miniloads)
- High throughput shuttle systems.
Automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS) can be implemented as single as well as double deep storage.
An AS/RS can be beneficial in several phases of the warehouse logistics process:
Bulk storage: By storing your products in an AS/RS you can reduce handling and make better use of available floor space. Our QUICKSTORE AS/RS is especially designed for automated small parts storage. Herma is a good example of this type of system. Our pallet handling technology is especially suitable for automated pallet storage (high bay). Argos and Colombini are good examples.
Order picking and replenishment: AS/RS systems, in combination with our goods-to-man order picking solutions, are ideal for small volume products in retail and wholesale warehouses. PLUS Retail is a good example. Automated Crate Picking can significantly lower your costs and improve store friendly delivery. Crates are not stored in ‘traditional’ racking, but in an AS/RS system. Crates are picked, transported and palletized automatically without manual labour. This type of solution is especially beneficial for fresh food in crates. Micarna implemented this type of system very successfully. AS/RS systems can also be used to replenish flow racks in zone picking systems. TVH is a good example.
Order consolidation: By automating your order consolidation and packing operation you can optimise the number of shipments, improve delivery accuracy and store-friendly delivery, and reduce manual handling. Goods flows from different (order picking) areas come together in the QUICKSTORE HDS shuttle system. Within a short time period, flows can be sorted and grouped per order, delivery unit or shipment, and then dispatched in the exact sequence you require. Sorbo and Tesco are nice examples.
