Automated cross docking system for E. LeCLerc leads to 50% labour reduction


With around 500 outlets LeClerc is one of the largest retail chains in France. The shops are supplied from 16 strategically located distribution centres. Four of these distribution centres have fully automated cross docking systems installed by Vanderlande Industries.

Scachap in Ruffec was installed in 2000, and handles fresh products such as fruit, vegetables, dairy products and meat in a temperature controlled environment. The automated cross docking system implies products are not held in stock, but are transshipped directly to the shops: The ideal strategy for fresh products. Central in the system is a POSISORTER sliding shoe sorter with a sortation capacity of 40.000 cartons / day. An assortment of 2.000 SKUs in 5 different family groups is sorted to 33 LeClerc stores.
