CROSSORTERs for Belgian Post Group
A contract was signed at the end of last year with Belgian Post Group De Post/La Poste to supply two CROSSORTER systems for the postal sorting centres at Antwerp and Charleroi. The contract comprises all conveyors, controls and sorters with a total length of 430 metres, and marks another post/parcel processing customer choosing Vanderlande systems.
Wide variety of parcelsThe equipment not only sorts parcels to different destinations, but also captures the barcode and weight of each parcel. This is necessary to support the Track & Trace service by De Post/La Poste, as well as item-based billing for some customers.
For Vanderlande Industries the big challenge is to process the wide variety of parcels, with weights from 50 g to 20 kg and sizes up to 900 x 600 x 600 mm. Weighing is done by dynamic scales on each induction line. Parcels are injected onto the loop sorter, where the overhead camera captures the address and barcode images. These are decoded by the OCR/video system, and parcels are then sorted to their destination chutes or to a reject chute.
