Fully validated automated storage and order picking system for Amgen
Amgen is a leading biopharmaceutical company. The European Logistics Centre in Breda, the Netherlands distributes products to hospitals, wholesalers and drugstores in Europe and the Middle-East, Africa and Australia. Delivering the correct product to the right location at the right time is key for Amgen. It's business model is based on delivering very high customer service levels.
To be able to deliver these high service levels to a growing customer base Amgen invested in a virtually paperless automated storage and goods-to-man order picking system. This allows Amgen to achieve very high accuracy and short cycle times. All incoming orders are processed and shipped the same day. The 5 aisles QUICKSTORE miniload AS/RS (temperature 5°C) with 22,000 locations makes optimal use of the available floor space. It automatically stores and retrieves both 'components' used by the Blister production line in the Labelling & Packing hall, as well as finished products required to fulfil customer orders. The system is integrated into Amgen's Warehouse Management System and guarantees full tracking and tracing. All processes and installations which are GMP critical are fully GMP compliant. All installations were extensively tested and GMP critical systems were validated.
