Mission 4: Good business

A growing number of laws and regulations affect our business. The Good Business programme ensures compliance, while helping us maintain high ethical standards. As part of this programme, we are strengthening vetting of suppliers, investing more in cybersecurity and embedding risk management into our operations.

Over the past year, this has involved:

  • using analysis from EcoVadis to help assess supply chain risk and performance in relation to how suppliers conduct their business
  • getting our strategic and preferred product-related suppliers to sign our Supplier Code of Conduct (78% had done so by the end of FY2024)
  • providing IT and software upgrades that extend the lifetimes of our solutions by more than 20 years
  • strengthening our cyber threat models and investigating ways of including new cyber services in our products
  • introducing new e-learning courses for our teams on workplace harassment and anti-bribery
  • continuing our zero-tolerance approach to bribery and corruption
  • enforcing strict environmental controls, and health and safety standards at our facilities.
“Ultimately, good business is about doing the right thing – taking the right decision in the interest of the company and its stakeholders, as well as wider society.”
Carl Messemaeckers van de Graaff
Vanderlande General Counsel

Taking action with our Speak Up line

As part of our Good Business programme, we have a confidential Speak Up line, which is available around the clock. It allows both employees and outside parties to report any concerns or suspected violations of our good business standards, anonymously and without fear of retaliation. We investigate each case and take action when necessary to prevent it recurring and help the concerned individual feel heard and valued.

Our good business action for the future

Over the next few years, we will:

  • introduce ESG criteria into supplier selection and audits to help us comply with stricter regulations relating to supply chain management
  • by FY2025, realise our ambition to increase the number of strategic and preferred product-related suppliers signing up to our Supplier Code of Conduct to 100%
  • put in place a more structured approach to managing supply chain and third-party risk through our Compass programme, which includes developing a new Target Operating Model for our risk and compliance activities
  • and – through the Compass programme – increase visibility over our supply chain to minimise the risk of environmental damage or human and labour rights violations resulting from our business activities.

Our other sustainability missions

Zero carbon footprint

We’ve created a roadmap to identify the main areas where we can reduce emissions upstream, downstream and in our own operations. We will be designing more energy-efficient solutions and products, and working closely with suppliers to reduce emissions from parts, components and equipment.

Circular economy

We’re taking a more circular approach to our solutions, as well as introducing circularity as a requirement in product and supplier criteria. Central to our work is reusing, recycling and remanufacturing as much as possible as we implement our Supplier Code of Conduct.

Fulfilling experience

Much of our success as a company depends on our people, and creating a working environment that offers a fulfilling experience. That means protecting those working with our solutions, encouraging more women into our workforce, and offering training and career development.
