Our sustainable solutions

Smarter energy use

Our conveyor equipment and other systems are now available with ultra-premium efficiency motors and low-friction belts.

  • IE5 motors

We are working with a number of key parcel and airport customers to install IE5 motors at their facilities. This is the highest efficiency class of electric motor, and significantly reduces energy consumption and CO2 emissions compared to older models, such as the IE3 and IE2. The IE5 also offers increased reliability and longer service life thanks to its lower running temperatures.

  • Low-friction conveyor belts

Low-friction belts improve energy efficiency by reducing the resistance encountered during operation. In turn, this leads to lower energy consumption and reduced operational costs. In FY2026, low-friction belts were sold in about 20% of customer projects.

Circular-by-design

  • SPOX
  • Modular components

Across our supply chain, we’re looking for parts and components that can be reused and easily maintained. Many modular components have the added value of being easier to repair, replace or recycle, which is central to efficient resource use and circularity.

  • Predictive maintenance

Regular maintenance, provision of spare parts and upgrades are indispensable to making sure our logistics systems meet their expected lifespans of 15 to 20 years. To complement these essentials, we are now developing predictive maintenance programmes using sensors, software and emerging AI technologies. These help to reduce unplanned downtime and ensure parts are replaced only when necessary.

Materials innovation

  • Green steel and aluminium

Green steel and aluminium are produced with lower carbon emissions using renewable energy and recyclable materials. To support more sustainable production, we are partnering with suppliers to increase the use of these lower impact materials in our solutions and equipment.

  • Timber

Wood is primarily used in our packaging and custom pallets, but its renewable properties make it an attractive material for other applications as well. In FY2026, we explored replacing steel with timber for support structures and have already used wood flooring in an Italian parcel distribution centre due to its durability and sound-insulating qualities.

  • Reusable pallets

During FY2026, we extended the use of reusable standard pallets. This cuts down on waste by reducing the reliance on single-use, custom-made alternatives.

Sustainability in action

Discover how sustainability is translated into real world impact through innovative projects, customer partnerships, and practical solutions. From energy efficient baggage handling systems and circular parcel sorters to low carbon construction materials and improved workplace environments, these examples demonstrate how sustainability delivers measurable environmental, operational, and social benefits.

Progress and performance

We’ve set clear objectives and targets for each focus area. As well as meeting regulatory requirements, these targets address the growing customer demand for low-carbon, circular and user-friendly systems.

In the longer term, it’s our ambition to become a net zero, regenerative company by decoupling future business growth from emissions and resource use. We have also set targets on business ethics, and on creating safe and inclusive working environments

Zero carbon

  • Targets

Reduce combined scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions by 59% by FY2034. Reduce scope 3 emissions by 35% by FY2034.

  • Progress

Since FY2022, our base year, we have successfully reduced combined scope 1 and 2 emissions by 16%.

Figures show that our total scope 3 emissions, as reported, have risen by just over 11% in the same period – though this increase is attributable to our current methodology of calculating downstream emissions.

Circularity

  • Targets

Achieve a zero waste culture at our Veghel campus by FY2030.

Reduce waste by 20% across all Vanderlande sites by FY2030.

  • Progress

During FY2026, we catalogued residual waste, brought in additional waste separation bins and redesigned container storage, ensuring that we remain on track to meet our target for Veghel.

We continue to work to reduce waste across our operations through our Waste Reduction programme. Thanks to this, we are confident we can meet the FY2030 target for all sites.

Wellbeing

  • Targets

Increase the percentage of female employees across the company and in senior leadership positions to 20% by FY2030; and reduce the lost-time incident rate by 20% each year.

  • Progress

During FY2026, we increased the percentage of women in our workforce to 17.5%, ahead of our target for the year. Women also occupy 13.7% of our leadership positions. In addition, we reduced the time lost by 14% thanks to successful safety awareness campaigns and training.

Good business

  • Targets

Ensure all strategic and preferred suppliers sign the company’s Supplier Code of Conduct.

  • Progress

All these suppliers have now signed up to the Code.
