San Juan, PR – Aerostar Airport Holdings LLC (“Aerostar”) has awarded Vanderlande a 10.3 year with 10 year extension option baggage handling system operations and maintenance contract at the Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport (“SJU”). The initial service contract is valued at $16M.
The Vanderlande Services team originally began working at SJU in August 2012 as part of the Terminal A expansion. The baggage handling system (“BHS”) in Terminal A was the first fully automated in-line screening system in Puerto Rico. Over the next 12 months Vanderlande Services worked to enhance and optimize the performance of the Terminal A system. The success of the Terminal A expansion has now lead to Vanderlande becoming Aerostar’s choice for BHS operation and maintenance across all Terminals located at SJU.
In late 2014 Services will become responsible for the new $18.6M baggage handling system presently being designed and built by Vanderlande. The Terminal B baggage handling system will be an integral part of Aerostar’s major capacity enhancement program at SJU.
Vanderlande played an integral role in assisting Aerostar with developing and implementing their interim plan to move airlines into Terminal D. Refurbishment of the terminal’s existing baggage handling system was executed by the Vanderlande Service team and was completed in November 2013. The completion date for the BHS in Terminals B and C is slated for November 2014.
