Vanderlande installs advanced automation solution to help ASICS Oceania manage growth

Vanderlande is currently installing a state-of-the-art logistic process automation system at ASICS Oceania’s Marsden Park distribution centre (DC) in Sydney, Australia. With the DC nearing its capacity in its current configuration, this new solution marks a pivotal step in helping ASICS manage its strong growth pathway. Handover is scheduled for April 2025.

ASICS is one of the world’s leading running shoe brands for both professionals and serious enthusiasts. From its Marsden Park base, the company distributes footwear, apparel and accessories throughout Australia via wholesale, retail and e-commerce channels. Vanderlande has been working with ASICS since 2019, when it installed a POSISORTER, a sliding shoe sorter, at the DC.

The latest installation covers key warehouse functions, including inbound and outbound flows, storage, carton handling and palletising. At the heart of the solution are Vanderlande’s intelligent automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS) ADAPTO, and its High Dynamic Storage (HDS) shuttle system.

These two systems will combine seamlessly to provide fast and accurate order fulfilment that facilitates timely deliveries, while enabling ASICS to nearly double its current capacity.

“The new system perfectly suits our requirements by allowing us to increase capacity and flexibility at our busy DC,” says Michael Masulans, General Manager at ASICS Oceania. “It will help us to improve the customer experience and accommodate seasonal variations more effectively. We are also excited by the system’s innovative ergonomics, and pleased with the effort Vanderlande has put in to keep operators safely away from heavy/moving equipment.”

“We’re in the midst of installing the new system, and our partnership with ASICS is proving to be as productive as it was when we introduced our POSISORTER solution,” says Jordan Thrupp, Vanderlande’s Executive Director for Warehouse Solutions in Australia. “It is always very satisfying to collaborate with an existing customer to help them grow their business.”

“We’re delighted to be working with ASICS Oceania again and building on what is already a strong relationship,” adds James Cotton, Vanderlande’s Executive Managing Director for Warehouse Solutions. “We listened closely to the ASICS team and have designed a solution that will perfectly complement the DC’s existing automation.”
