For its first project, the Programme has been raising funds to plant trees in Het Groene Woud (the Green Forest), located in North Brabant, The Netherlands. The total project consists of four sub-areas, comprising a total of 46 hectares. Not-for-profit organisation Trees for All is facilitating the planting of new ‘loam’ forests in the area.
The Forest Programme aims to raise €50,000 in order to plant nearly 10,000 trees in Het Groene Woud before the end of 2020. This reflects a compensation of 1,000 tonnes of CO2 throughout the lifetime of the forest.
“How companies operate has become crucial in guaranteeing the wellbeing of future generations,” explains Vanderlande’s CFO Herman Molenaar. “In line with this, sustainability is increasingly important for our employees, who wish to be associated with a company that is value-driven, and acts accordingly. Our ultimate goal is to build a community through the sustainability programme and work towards creating a more sustainable future, together.”
