The Estonian Post is the only provider of universal postal services in Estonia. Although there are over 25 competitors in express and direct mail services, they are striving to make Estonian Post the people’s favorite postal enterprise on the market characterised by an ever-increasing competition.
The Estonian Post minimises its cost level by maximising the use of new technologies and centralising the activities. Today, the main activity is still the same as then – mail and shipment delivery. However, the contemporary postal business also includes express, warehouse, freight, financial and other services.
Recently the Estonian Post invested in an automatic sorting line for parcels. This to have a large competitive advantage in Estonia.
The sorting system for the Estonian Post consists of one POSISORTER equipped with three infeed lines, and in total 30 outfeeds. Each infeed line has an automatic weighing scale, for in motion weighing of each parcel. This, together with the information from the centrally located volume scanner is used for invoice purposes. Barcode information is read by an centrally located camera based scanner, making sure the Estonian Post is ready for the transition to two dimensional barcodes.
The system is controlled by use of the standard Vanderlande Flow System Controller (FSC). This control system is connected via a Destination Server to the host system of the Estonian Post.
