Toyota Western Australia (WA) selects Vanderlande’s FASTPICK warehousing solution

Vanderlande is to install FASTPICK, its highly automated goods-to-person (GtP) solution at a new distribution centre (DC) for Toyota WA in Perth, Australia. The system will incorporate ADAPTO, the innovative shuttle-based automated storage and retrieval system (AS/RS), and is expected to be taken into operation in the first quarter of 2025.

Toyota WA is part of the Perron Group and holds exclusive rights for the distribution of Toyota vehicles, parts and accessories in Western Australia. The company is expanding its operations, having outgrown its current facilities. The state-of-the-art DC will be almost three times the size of the existing one and will service 36 Toyota dealerships across the state, supplying service and replacement parts.

A significant part of the DC will be automated with FASTPICK, which provides high-pick productivity as items are sent directly to operators by ADAPTO. The solution gives the shuttles access to 31,000 storage locations, and the AS/RS incorporates four height-adjustable GtP workstations. In addition, the system has the capacity to handle 1,400 totes per hour.

Automated guided vehicles (AGVs) deliver pallets and cages from the inbound to the storage area, and from manual picking to the outbound docks. The AGVs will also manage the transport of totes from various pick-up to drop-off locations across the DC.

FASTPICK’s track record for reliability and operator comfort played a key role in Toyota WA’s decision to partner with Vanderlande. “The new facility has been designed with height-adjustable picking stations to ensure optimum ergonomics for our team,” says Gary Nettle, Toyota WA Executive Director. “Technology is about complementing the work of our people, not replacing them, and all current staff have been guaranteed their ongoing employment when they transfer to the new facility.”

“It is great to work with Toyota WA in Perth and build a future-proof solution that gives the company the flexibility to manage current and anticipated growth,” adds Jordan Thrupp, Managing Director of Vanderlande Australia. “We are convinced that the new solution will provide Toyota WA customers with the high service levels they’ve come to expect.”
