“Irregular” packages have unusual dimensions and weights that are outside of the boundaries defined by the parcel companies. These include mailing tubes, or anything that isn’t inside a cardboard box, envelope, or poly mailer.

When these irregulars are added into the mix, the challenge is to sort every item within the required timeframe and to the correct destination – without the need for manual intervention.

Vanderlande offers a complete range of line and loop sorters to cater for every eventuality. The optimum solution depends on the different sizes, weights and kinds of products being handled. Other important factors are the required capacity, and the size and layout of the main building.

As the name suggests, “regular” packages have common dimensions and weights that fall within the boundaries defined by the parcel companies. These include goods that have been typically packed inside a cardboard box, envelope, or poly mailer.

The challenge for regulars remains the same as other types of packages – to sort all parcels on time and to the correct delivery address with reduced manual handling.

Vanderlande offers a full range of line (POSISORTER) and loop sorters (various CROSSORTERs) to suit all requirements. The best choice of system depends on the various parcel dimensions, the types of products being handled, the target capacity and overall footprint allocated.

“Smalls” and “flyers” have similar sorting requirements due to their comparative sizes. The shipping of smalls refers to the sending of small, lightweight items packed in an individual package, such as a box, envelope, or poly mailer.

In general, a flyer consists of a singular piece of advertising literature, such as brochures, catalogues and magazines. These items are typically light and relatively small –­ for example A4, A5, DL or A6 –­ up to the size of a standard letter.

The COMPAXORTER is part of Vanderlande’s line-sorting technology for sorting smalls and flyers for delivery at the right place and time – and for loop-sorting there is a range of CROSSORTERs.

As well as the above parcel dimensions, the overall capacity of the operation – as well as the scale and design of the building – should be evaluated for the most appropriate sorting solution.

The flow of parcels, pallets, cages and irregular goods comes together at the outgoing docks. This is where they are consolidated to match the various delivery vehicles. 

Our telescopic belt or roller conveyors are used for loose-loaded parcels. And access is provided for pallets, cages and irregular products when the extendable conveyors are not in use. 

Regional delivery vans are manually loaded in a first-in, last-out sequence. The drivers can then easily reach the parcels they need at the appropriate addresses. It’s common for cages and containers to be loaded manually, but this process can also be automated.

The current climate for safety and security procedures places you under increasing pressure. The stringent rules and regulations you face on screening can also differ by country.  

This process is generally performed by international authorities to check for: dangerous goods such as explosives; and illegal goods – or if the correct taxes have been paid.
